Hello Friends and Family!
Just like last summer, I had a very busy summer! So, I thought I'd dedicate this post to my busy, busy summer! This summer was great, but very busy! I hate busy. I've been complaining about it a lot lately. I've realized that I should really stop complaining that I'm "SOOOO busy". What it really means, is that I'm lucky enough to have lots of friends and family to spend time with. It means that I am healthy enough to have a life where I can be "SOOOO busy". I'm working on not complaining about it as much, as long as Zach gives me a night or two a week to do absolutely NOTHING. I'm also going to try to work out a schedule where I do one thing a night to keep the house in order so I can keep up and not feel overwhelmed...lets see how this goes!
Anyways, just as last summer, I did a lot of home projects! Last summer I redid a china cabinet, and dining room table and chairs. I then helped my mom redo her kitchen table and chairs and repaint her kitchen. This summer, I have done a lot, but failed to take very many pictures, but I'll post what I have! This summer, I have restained my ugly kitchen cabinets, made headboards, refurnished and decorated my back bedrooms, redecorated our living room, made a wine rack, and put wooden frames around our bathroom mirrors! I meant to make a bookshelf for all my books from teaching second grade now that I have moved up to fourth grade, but I ran out of summer. Naturally, I caved and bought a couple because I couldn't stand to have them sit up there scattered all over the place any longer!
I took 4 1x4's and cut them at 45 degree angles on each side. I then stained them as you can see in this picture!
After I finished staining all the pieces of wood, I pieced them together and used a staple gun to make it stick together. I stapled the front and the back. To attach it to my mirror, I just used those 3M stickies for pictures. I stuck one on each piece of wood in the middle and stuck it to the mirror! It's so easy and workin' like a charm!
Above is one of the headboards that I made. I don't think I like it, I think I'm gonna just buy a header that is white with wooden spindle like things along the way. I'm then gonna turn the headboard above into a mirror and place it above the dresser on the opposite wall.
The header in this picture, I am more proud of. We cut off the feet some, so it looks more appropriate now, it doesn't look so tall off the floor and awkward. I like it though, because it matches the dresser, floor length mirror and end tables pretty well! It also has a "wood-sy" nature-y feel, and one day in the far future when I have kids, this will be my "boy room".
This picture is something I love and am so proud of, even though the photo quality kind of stinks. Zach assembled it and I painted and antique glazed it. I love the little wine quotes on the top! :)
This project is probably the project I am most proud of from this summer. If you look back in my New Year's Eve post, you can see pictures of the old cabinets in the background. They were almost as light as the TV trays you can see by the trash can in the picture. They were horrible and so outdated. To redo these, I used miniwax gel stain and it. was. awesome. It was SO easy! No sanding or stripping of stain. All I had to do was paint it on over the old ones!
As you can see, I've had a busy, yet productive summer! I'm pretty happy with most of the results! :)
Thanks for checkin' in!
